Android 17 and the June 2026 Pixel Drop: Bubbles and Screen reactions
The arrival ofAndroid 17 in its stable version forms the foundation of this update. Google specifies that all supported Pixel devices running Android 16 will receive the upgrade to Android 17, starting with the Pixel 6. The rollout begins now and will progress in phases over about a week.
Among the flagship features of this new system, Bubbles allow you to transform any application into a compact floating window. These bubbles appear at the top of the home screen and are freely movable, with a maximum of five simultaneous applications. On Pixel Fold devices, a dedicated bar appears at the bottom right of the unfolded screen to organize and quickly access these floating windows.
Screen reactions represent the other major innovation of Android 17. This feature directly integrates the front camera into the screen recording tool, without the need for a third-party app. The user's face appears as an overlay on the recorded video, resizable and movable in real-time, similar to a green screen effect. To activate it, Google indicates that you just need to swipe down twice to open quick settings, select the recording icon, and enable the "Show front camera" option.
Gemini Omni and Lyria 3: AI creation arrives on Pixel
The AI component of June Pixel Drop is particularly ambitious. Google is integrating Gemini Omni, its video generation model, directly into the Gemini app on Pixels. It allows for the creation and editing of videos by combining text, photos, and existing clips, from scratch or by remixing media from the camera roll. It's even possible to generate a personalized avatar in your likeness and insert it into a video. Google specifies that this functionality is reserved for AI Pro subscribers.
Music creation also makes its debut with Lyria 3, Google's audio generation model. Accessible from the Gemini app via the tools menu, it produces original songs with lyrics from a text description or a simple photo. The style, voices, and tempo are customizable on demand. Google indicates that this functionality is available on Pixels running Android 17.
Major improvements for phone calls
Call management receives several important evolutions in this Pixel Drop. The Take A Message feature, which automatically records and transcribes a voicemail when the user doesn't answer, now benefits from Personalized messages. This option allows you to record your own audio announcement for callers. Available in beta since April 2026, it is now more widely accessible. Google also announces the expansion of Take A Message to twenty-two new markets, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, and Taiwan. These new regions join Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Compatibility covers Pixel 6 and later models, with the exception of India where the feature remains reserved for the Pixel 10 series.
Voice Translate is also coming to the Pixel 10a. This feature, introduced on Pixel 10 phones in August 2025, translates a caller's speech in real-time during a call while preserving their original voice. As the Pixel 10a is marketed at $500 and features the same Tensor G4 processor as the Pixel 9 series, this expansion raises hopes for a future arrival on older high-end models. In India, Google is also launching Manual Call Screen on Pixel 10 phones: the assistant questions the caller and displays a real-time transcription before the user answers.
Quick Share compatible with AirDrop extends to Pixel 9a and Pixel 8a
Interoperability between Android and iOS continues to advance. Google confirms that Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop is now available on Pixel 9a and Pixel 8a. Owners of these devices can share files with iPhone users via Quick Share, without installing any additional apps on either side. This support was already in place on high-end Pixels and some Android phones from other brands. The absence of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro from the list remains notable, however.
This Pixel Drop also brings good news for European users: the Edit Photos feature, which allows voice-controlled photo editing from simple retouching to complex modifications, is arriving in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom on Pixel 6 and later models. Magic Cue, the contextual feature of Pixel 10 phones, is also being extended to more messaging apps in the coming weeks, according to Google.
Pixel Watch moves to automatic emergency alerts
For several months, the Pixel Watch has integrated sensors capable of detecting falls, car accidents, or pulse loss. With this June 2026 Pixel Drop, Google is taking a new step in safety. When one of these serious events is detected, the watch now automatically contacts emergency services and sends a notification to designated emergency contacts, even if the user cannot reach their phone. This feature applies to Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4.
