Anthropic launches Claude Opus 4.8 this May 28, 2026, with an unprecedented tool for coordinating hundreds of sub-agents and significant improvements in reliability. Available immediately, at the same prices as Opus 4.7.

The most significant technical innovation in this version is the Dynamic Workflows, available in research preview within Claude Code. The principle is as follows: Claude can now dynamically write orchestration scripts that run dozens to hundreds of sub-agents in parallel within a single session, then verify its own results before transmitting them to the user.

Pricing and new features
The pricing for Opus 4.8 is the same as for Opus 4.7 for standard usage. The fast mode, which allows the model to run at 2.5 times the normal speed, is now three times cheaper than for previous versions. Here is the pricing structure in effect as of May 28, 2026:

Two other updates accompany Opus 4.8. An effort level control is now available on claude.ai and in Cowork: at higher effort, the model reasons more deeply to produce better responses; at reduced effort, responses arrive faster and consume less quota. The Messages API now also accepts 'system' type inputs directly in the message array, allowing developers to update an agent's instructions or permissions during execution without breaking the prompt cache.
Claude Mythos: availability announced for the coming weeks
Anthropic is using the announcement of Opus 4.8 to provide an initial timeline for Claude Mythos, its most powerful model. A limited preview was deployed as part of Project Glasswing, exclusively for cybersecurity-related uses, before being suspended due to security concerns. Dynamic Workflows deserve a quick evaluation, especially for codebase migrations. And for organizations awaiting Mythos, today's announcement confirms that the deadline is approaching.
