The realme UI 7.0 anti-theft feature triggers an audible alarm and locks the smartphone as soon as a theft attempt is detected. Realme is integrating it into its two new models launched in France on May 12, 2026.
When software security becomes a commercial argument
Smartphone theft remains a common problem in public transport, airports, and public spaces. Manufacturers are looking to differentiate their offerings with protection features, and Realme is now highlighting three distinct arguments: physical robustness, battery life, and a new anti-theft system. What's new is the positioning. Realme isn't hiding this feature in a sub-menu of settings; it's becoming a central selling point, on par with megapixels or battery life.
The underlying trend is real. Google has deployed its own anti-theft solution, which relies on artificial intelligence and motion sensors to automatically detect a snatch-and-grab theft. Samsung, for its part, offers the Theft Protection suite in One UI. Realme is now playing in the same league, but with a more behavioral approach, focusing on concrete physical signals rather than motion analysis.
How the realme UI 7.0 Anti-theft system works
The principle is based on detecting three specific actions, often associated with a theft attempt. The feature activates in three situations: when the smartphone's charging is interrupted, when headphones or headsets are disconnected, or when the SIM card is removed. These scenarios cover the most frequent contexts: the cable being discreetly unplugged in a café or at the airport, headphones being ripped out on the metro, or the SIM card being removed to make the device easier to resell.
When one of these events is detected, the device automatically locks, activates power-saving mode, and emits an audible alarm. Deactivation requires authentication via code or facial recognition. The alarm remains active until this verification, rendering the phone unusable without the owner's credentials.
The persistence of the alarm is one of the most relevant aspects of the system. Realme explains that the large-capacity battery allows the alarm to sound for an extended period, until deactivated via a code or facial recognition. The device then becomes difficult to use and unattractive to a thief, which, according to the brand, increases the chances of locating or recovering it.
A practical detail to note: everything is configurable directly in the phone's options, with the user able to manage the three scenarios independently. This limits false alarms in legitimate situations, such as replacing a SIM card at home.
The two devices that inaugurate this feature
The realme 16 5G is the most complete model of the duo. Realme confirms a 6.57-inch AMOLED screen at 120 Hz, a MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. Its 6,550 mAh silicon-carbon battery is compatible with 45 W charging, and Realme promises 80% capacity retained after 1,600 cycles, which on paper corresponds to over four years with one full charge per day, whereas the industry standard is around 1,000 cycles. The cumulative IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certification is rare below 500 euros; by comparison, a Samsung Galaxy A56 stops at IP67, while a Pixel 10a is limited to IP68. The model also integrates a physical mirror in its rear camera module, allowing the 50-megapixel main sensor to be used for selfies.
The realme C100 5G adopts a different approach, focused on physical durability and long-lasting battery life. Certified MIL-STD-810H, it is designed to withstand drops and mechanical stress. Its 6.8-inch LCD screen runs at 144 Hz, a frequency rarely seen in this price segment. The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor is paired with a 6,600 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging. Realme claims up to three days of use on a single charge. Storage is expandable via microSD up to 2 TB.
Pricing and availability
Both devices run on Android 16 with the realme UI 7.0 interface and benefit from a launch offer of 20 euros off, valid until May 31. Here are the prices confirmed by Realme for the French market:
realme 16 5G (8 GB + 256 GB): 399.99 euros, or 379.99 euros with the Early Bird launch offer from May 12 to May 31, 2026.
realme C100 5G (4 GB + 128 GB): 239.99 euros, or 219.99 euros during the same period; the 4 GB + 256 GB version is offered at 259.99 euros (239.99 euros in launch promotion).
A blind spot to watch: software tracking
The Anti-theft function is convincing on paper, but it raises a question that realme has not yet settled for these two models. While the recent realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+ promise 5 years of OS updates and 6 years of security patches, the brand has not explicitly detailed its support promises for the 16 5G and C100 5G. In this regard, Samsung maintains an advantage with 6 Android updates and 7 years of security on the Galaxy A56, and Google with 7 years of full updates on the Pixel 10a.
This is perhaps the limit of the exercise. An effective anti-theft function on launch day loses some of its value if the software that runs it is no longer maintained after two years. For devices positioned on durability, the issue of long-term software support is as important as physical resistance or battery life.
realme is launching an interesting commercial strategy here: transforming an everyday problem into a differentiating selling point in a segment where competition usually fights over megapixels and milliamps. If the realme UI 7.0 anti-theft protection delivers on its promises in real use, it could push other mid-range players to integrate similar approaches. The two models will be available from May 12, 2026, on the official realme store and its partner retailers. Checking the update commitments before buying remains a useful reflex.
